When I met Jess and James for the first time, I was genuinely excited with them as they discussed the details of their dreamy winter Southern Highlands wedding at Bendooley Estate, in NSW. Bendooley is one of those venues that ignites photographers passion for beautiful imagery with so much beauty on the property!
Saturday 22nd August 2015, an uncannily warm day ( 26 degrees!!) sets the scene for a perfect winter’s wedding.
Arriving at nearby Coromandel Cottage, the groom and groomsmen were in full swing, with the log fire going and the whisky flowing, what I could see clearly was a great bunch of mates genuinely happy and honoured to be apart of James’ wedding day.
James had a unique gift from his bride- A letter and a journal labelled “365”. It was a collection of notes that Jess had written to James, one each day, over the past year in the lead up to their wedding. Tears and emotions flowed, and we all love a groom that sheds a tear 🙂
Over to the bride’s cottage at Bendooley, the girls looked stunning and emotions were high when Jess’s Dad saw her as the beautiful bride she was.
It was such a beautiful touch, and I’m sure a special moment for both parents to give their love and blessings to them both as they handed over their only daughter to marry the man of her dreams.
After the ceremony, I had a bold idea. “How about you get in the boat and row to the island? It would make a great photo!”
I half expected them to say no but Jess and James thought it was a GREAT idea and eagerly got on board with the execution of it!
It was a group effort, and I honestly couldn’t have pulled it off without the two groomsmen that jumped into the canoe and went over to the island first, so they could help Jess get in and out of the tiny little dinghy safely. They then hid the dinghy and canoe on the other side of the island, hid behind some trees, and gave Jess and James the best wedding gift of all – Some of the most stunning wedding photos imaginable. These photos would not exist without the enthusiasm, dedication and commitment to all involved! Thanks guys!
It was only when we got back safely, that we heard of another bride just 2 weeks beforehand, tried the same thing, and ended up neck deep in water! ( crisis adverted!)
Just before Jess and James entered the restaurant to spend the evening with family and friends, Jess changed form her veil into a beautiful vintage hairpiece, the very same one that her Grandmother wore on her wedding day.
I hope you enjoy these beautiful photos as much as I enjoyed shooting it! Special mention to the amazing work by the team of suppliers on the day.
