Heading off to Jen & Luke’s wedding in the normally beautiful Southern Highlands, the forecast was for torrential rain for their day. The forecast was something like a months worth of rain in 2 days.
The prospect of a complete washout was a real possibility. In southern highlands wedding photography groups, everyone was really concerned about how the weekend was going to play out. There was a sense of gloom & dread, that all these couples who had spent the past 1-2 years planning their dream day with an outdoor ceremony were going to get washed out under a bucketload of rain.
When I arrived, it was lightly sprinkling. Over the next 2-3hrs before the ceremony started, it did rain heavily a couple of times. However after that, the rain held off until late at night. PHEW!!!
I told Luke to really push for an outdoor ceremony and only move it indoors if it was really raining solidly. He was a complete legend and resisted the temptation to pull everyone undercover. As a result we had the most beautiful outdoor ceremony, which was exactly what Jen & Luke wanted and planned for. With the clouds overhead, we had amazing soft light.
Autumn in the Southern Highlands is such a treat. The amazing splashes of colour is just magical and makes for the most incredible photos with the vibrant yellows and reds amongst the trees.
Jen & Luke were married with their beautiful children & family close by, and the day was full of tears of happiness. It was awesome to capture so many candid moments of this couple especially with their kids- And I just love the shots of Jen embracing the wet ground and the mess it made of the bottom of her dress! And guess what? It didnt get ruined! She washed and blowdried the bottom of it before the reception started to freshen it up, good as new! ( well, almost!) Jen, you were a real trooper!
